Welcome

We’re here to innovate, enable and increase investor and philanthropic action on inequality.

vision

Our vision is a future where finance is harnessed in service of advancing equality and human rights.

mission

EIIP exists to build the field and drive increased use of equality impact investing (EII): investing and philanthropy that intentionally seeks to advance equality through both its means and its end.

To do this, we bring equality and human rights actors together with social and impact investors and philanthropists to:

• Better understand inequality challenges and opportunities where investors and philanthropists can make a difference

• Pioneer new policy and practice responses

• Share and promote promote learning to influence wider change

Our approach is evidence-based and open-minded, concerned with all dimensions of inequality, its root causes and always focused on increasing the flow of finance to the heart of the matter.

As far are possible we try to work through existing investment and equality ecosystems, creating new initiatives only where these draw on and add value.

activities

EIIP delivers three main types of activities, and leads or supports strategic projects that combine all of these.

Insight and influencing: We generate and/or platform research and data that shine a light on challenges to and opportunities for effectively generating and flowing finance to social action on inequality. Within this we have a particular focus on amplifying issues and ideas identified by frontline equality impact organisations and initiatives. We use this data and insight to inform and influence policy and decision makers and practitioners. Our capacity building and EII in action work, below, also supports learning by doing.

Capacity Building: We develop and deliver a range of activities and resources to increase individual investor and philanthropist capacity to apply, and contribute to further developing, EII strategies, methods and principles in their work. These include open and tailored training, direct organisational support and guidance and tools. Our training, tools and guidance reflect emerging EII organisational and professional standards and competencies that we have codeveloped with stakeholders. Our EII Knowledge Hub contains both EIIP and other resources. We also are working to build the overall equality impact capacity of the impact economy as an EII infrastructure body.

Coordinating and supporting EII in action: We convene and support the activities of the EII Task Force that brings together key actors from the impact economy and the equality and human rights ecosystems to coordinate and collaborate on increasing the level and effectiveness of EII in the UK. Created in 2019, the Task Force’s collective work has focused on progressing enabling conditions for greater EII identified in our foundational and subsequent research. We also support individual members and subgroups progressing particular projects or priorities including via innovation and demonstration initiatives.

Strategic Projects: We work with our Task Force members and other partners to develop and deliver strategic projects that draw on all the above activities to progress change and development in particular areas including policy, professional standards and development, shifting power, and supporting transformative or systems change.
